Student Readiness

Mountainside Nature School takes place 100% outdoors, without access to covered spaces. Days may be wet, cold, windy, or otherwise challenging. Instructors take great pride and care in creating a safe and fun environment that provides just the right amount of challenge. In order to ensure the safety and well being of the whole group, it is important that each student is ready for a Mountainside day. 

Please make sure your student:

  • Shows age appropriate self regulation and impulse control during adventurous play

  • Is capable of following instructor directions and rules

  • Is comfortable and confident using the bathroom outdoors on their own

  • Can carry a backpack filled with the appropriate gear for 1-2 miles

  • Is willing to wear the necessary gear while outside

  • Does not run away or hide in frustrating and challenging situations

  • Can communicate what they need to their instructor
